The relics of the heads of the Apostles Peter & Paul are traditionally believed to rest in the baldacchino over the high altar.

The main door to the Basilica St John Lateran


San Giovanni in Laterano is the Cathedral of Rome, the "mother of all churches in the world" and the seat of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. The main door was the door of the Roman Senate ("Curia").
